That's just the Canberra Finch Club price guide price... actually never seen one, don't think anyone here has for many years.

Deb - nag them out of this silly idea. Keep letting them know what a waste of an endangered bird it would be not to breed this bird to one of it's own kind. Come on. We know you can nag with the best of them.

F/breeder I have tried and my partner who is not quite as hot headed as myself has tried to convince them that the bird needs to be away from the zebs , budgies and bloody rabbits and that it is protected , it is futile and so frustrating .
YOU JUST CANNOT EDUCATE AN IDIOT and in this case it is proving very true anyhoo as I said the phone will ring again , they know I am peeved and from memory I gave them this web site addy so with a bit of luck if and when they read this they may rethink the stupidity of breeding this little treasure to the Zebs.

honestly, i'd be tempted to make an anonymous tip off to the authorities... taking birds from the wild, "accidental" or not, is something that just doesn't need to happen anymore. they are a beautiful bird that is fairly easy to obtain if they really want some.
if you talk with them again tell them they won't have any luck breeding anyway because they only nest in living plants fairly high above the floor and won't use nest boxes either.

fair enough. i tend to push a point like that until my beliefs are accepted...
something i feel pretty strongly about is illegal trapping and the black market. in a country like australia, where a lot of our native birds are already available legally, there is no need to take them from the wild. anybody that does this deserves whatever comes to them, be it fines, jail time or a dirty big hole in their aviary mesh. not that i've ever been put in that situation (luckily for them)
