I realise this is a finch forum, but as many people keep diamond doves with their finches I thought someone may be able to help me with this mutation, From the little I have found on the net about mutations, I think it may be red, are these common in Australia?, even its nestmate looks a little different to the norm, please see pics

it would be that one of the parents or both are split for fawn, the darker is a normal looking diamond dove the other lighter one is a fawn. its a lucky dip like the budgies and zebies and i guess the munias, all of which in a few years will be hard to find pure forms of any bird......

The page that made me think red was this one
http://www.internationaldovesociety.com ... colors.htm
It does not mention a fawn, however I know with other birds, some countries name colours differently.

Having only bred silvers and normals I can't help. But the site makes me think it could be a cinnamon as they say the colour varies. Keep us updated with information and pics. And keep that pair together and see if they do it again. Also let us know what sex it is as some colours are sex linked.

Will definately be keeping them together, there are 2 pair in the aviary, I don't know which is the mate to the hen that produced this, so I am keeping the 4 together.
I was going to move all 4 to another aviary so I could put lovebirds in the one they are in, but the hen is already going back down, so I will leave them there for at least 1 more round.

Suggest putting different coloured rings on each of the adults and observing and you should then be able to figure out who is dad. Also ring the sibling so you know which it is in case it could be split for this mutation.
