Intervene or observe?

What would you have done?
The other day I went into the main avairy and one of the Double Bars was down on the ground. I reached over and picked her up. (Not good) Inspected her. No sign of anything wrong, just a distinct case of egg bottom. (Think) What to do. Do I
Take her inside and put her into a hospital cage? Leave her in the avairy with her mate and observe her progress.
Things to consider. The weather and her peace of mind. The weather was already quite warm and getting warmer. All birds are happier with their mates/flock. Decided to leave her and observe.

Probably would have done the same, based on the weather not being cool. But A quick check every hour or 2 to make sure the condition doesn't worsen as birds can go down hill very quickly.

I've done the same in the past if the weather is warm and the hen is fluffed/eggbound. I add additional calcium to the water and observe. If the hen is quite bad off I give some of the calcium directly to her and so far all mine have pulled through and laid the egg after a day or so.

Yes the weather was the deciding factor. She perked up through the day and is just fine. :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

An aviary bird in summer I would leave alone and up the calcium and maybe some electrolytes , the handreareds in ' the summer residences ' would come back inside because that is their comfort zone and again get the calcium , spark and lots of cuddles.
Different horses for different courses with this situation .

Glad to hear she improved.

To my mind its not logical to move a hen from her nest when you want her to pass an egg. Sometimes I think moving an egg bound hen causes more stress and additional discomfort. Obviously weather/heat source is a deciding factor, but I would always try the route you went now before moving.

and a bit round the vent wont hurt either ..... crop needle = best piece of first aid equipment going .
