Rooty Hills Bird shop (Phone: 9625 9170) had a pair of Grenadier Weavers, couple of days ago for $400, if anyone's interested!

Btw, I'm not interested in obtaining any myself, just curious as they are quite rare.

Red Crested Finches
There are a few around and the serious breeders are getting some on the perch each year.
They remind me of big African Fire Finches but the male has a rich red crest which opens more to the sides instead of upright
They are cup shape nesters and lay 2 to 3 white eggs, chicks fledge quickly, possibly 12 days(not sure) and generally try to hide as they are not
strong flyers at first. Their breeding method and times are very similar to the Jacarini.
I have not see any agression towards other finches but the male can turn on the female or fledged chics at times.
A nice bird but can be very secetive.
If you want more data just ask.

Thanks E Orix, I am interested in reading more so if you have any info or good web sites I'd be happy to take them on board.
Have you kept/bred these yourself? Do they breed down low like the jacarinis? Sounds like they would prefer a heavily planted aviary seeing as how they are secretive?

Thanks.

I have had them breed high. But a hen I have now builds in a straw / brush filled mesh tube which hangs from the shelters roof.
The nest height is around 900mm off the floor and the eggs and chicks can be easily seen.
