Gomer where do i get warratah wire ? if i use whites wire you will hear me swearing from your place. Its rolled out of square and its shocking to use.I`ve used it a work for mammal enclosures recently and that was the 6mm square stuff.Just as bad and finally the zookeepers can see my point. Its just too hard to make something that has a nice finish out of this stuff.Ive bought rolls of it and ended up throwing half the roll away.

Alex, these birds come from Melbourne area i bought mine when they wernt even coloured up so they spent the cooler weather straight in my aviaries outside, i had seen the young in the nests so no heaters no fostering etc. I am more than happy with them, and still would be dodgy sellers of Blues in Melbourne you wouldnt trust as they havnt bred the birds and bought them from Sydney and resell them, bought my first lot from Sydney and lost all bar 2 Splits.
So i think i cant go wrong getting birds from a cooler climate and plus have been given alot of advice from this person/now close friend. So for any Blues you will know where to come, for me no heaters no fostering no problems and i cant wait.

Breeding Show Zebra Finches, Blue Gouldians, Pied Orange Breast.

Im more convinced then ever after hearing these kind of stories that breeding the blues is something that should be outcrossed and outcrossed to create a strong healthy splits first.
It seems as the blues in the past have been bred just for the $$$ factor with no concern for the bird themselves.
Evidence of this type of breeding is well known and documented in the dog world with hip displaysia quite a few breeds, exaggeration of a sloping back in German shepherds, this has created a distorted movement and German shepherds are now known as the "frog dog", brains too big to fit into skulls as in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, flattened faces in Pekes and Bulldog leading to breathing difficulties, and PRA in Collies, these just mention a few.
For myself Im aiming for blues, silvers and pastels on the perch, naturally, but Im in for the long haul, I want blue mutations that I can, eventually, confidently sell to others that look, and, more importantly, are the best they can be. As I see it the only way that can happen is if they are consistently bred back to the normals.

Regarding wire- it's almost impossible to get anything but White's wire at present- & yes it's a real pain in the a--- to work with- poorly welded, weak and never square.
There is some new stainless steel 6mm wire about apparently that is nice stuff- and not as horribly expensive as you may think- but still pricey for big jobs!
BTW- nice birds too!
