my recently purchased gouldians are revolting. there is no denying it.

they hate me. they swoop my head every time i enter the aviary. they have no fear of me whatsoever. i can practically touch them on the perch. i could handle this. but what i can't handle is the bullying of all my waxbills. my once rather peaceful aviary is in chaos. i no longer drink my coffee each morning to the delight of twittering little birds, warming themselves up in the sun. instead i see two revolting birds zooming around the avairy at high speeds swooping anyone they see just for the pleasure.

my cuban cock, who was a picture of good health, was found dead in a suspiciously defensive position on the avairy floor yesterday afternoon. he was last sighted just an hour or so earlier, with no signs of ill-health whatsoever.

i thought gouldians were considered docile? i feel like crying, how i loved that cuban.

advice? anyone else found goulds to offset their beauty with revolting personalities?

Are they RH? I have heard that the RH can be the most feisty of the Gouldians.
Maybe they had an aviary to themselves before you got them.
All I can think of is either move them into an aviary of their own, or maybe a cage inside the aviary till they settle down and get used to the other birds flying around.

Cant have the peace broken by horrible little bullies , take the little bastards out and put them in a cage on their own or rehome them ...anything for peace.
Pity theres no tiny little newspaper you can roll up and give them a whack with ....works with most dogs ( not mine lol)

Interesting you mention this. I have a black head cock that is the nastiest piece of work you could ever imagine. Guarding his nest box like a rottweiler, hissing and spitting at everything that gets close, even the red head cocks. His bride is a red head and she is nasty as well. I guess once they have a box to protect they can all become a bit feisty, irrespective of head colour.

Thus far my Gouldians have been well behaved, apart from a little aggression to each other as they sort out/re assert dominance within the flock. They are mostly YH with a pair of RH in each of the 2 avairys that contain Gouldians. They share with everything from O/B to Java in the main avairy. And the Cubans aren't being bothered.
