My son and his g/friend talked me into going to a bush auction with them today , I first thought it was going to be farm machinery and building materials etc.
Was I ever surprised when we got there ( late ) that there was a bird auction happening .
Here am I thinking most people with aviaries around here were into budgies , normal Quarrion and Zebs ...boy was I wrong .
Scanning the boxes of the birds already sold were Cubans , Stars , Zebs , mutations Ringnecks , Red Rumps ( I bought other half a pair of Cinnamin Blues ) , masked lovies , the most gawjus budgies ..I was amazed .
Masked Lovebirds and very nice ones too went for $28 pair , hard to find normal Quarrions $22 a pair , Mutation Red Rumps going at half the breeders prices and the biggest Jap quail Ive ever seen , the speaker kept saying " ready for the oven " I nearly caved in to save his little drumsticks but toughed it out .
Ill be keeping my eye on MONKS auctions from now on , just need to get me a pair of blue overalls and great big Akubra complete with forehead sweat stains and Ill fit in just fine.
Crikey they even got themselves a website with upcoming auctions mate ......though only a few birds were listed on this ones page.

It's nice when your average day out turns into a great day out isnt it.
Hope hubby was happy with his feathered gift.
