Sounds to me they are not a couple yet!A good couple will tolerate each other well with beak kissing and no real fighting.I saw fighting with mine when the cock wanted to mate and the hen would not lay.With some time she come around when she was ready.I would take the cock bird seperate to hen and the cock bird should start to sing more and more at the same time stimulate the hen.When you feel time is right join them and observe .

I don't think you could go wrong if you used Sisal or Hemp rope you can get it in various sizes I'd use 8mm or 5/16th" for durability.
