Hi. I have had my goldfinch cock for around 6 monthes now and he has never all out sang. He sings yeah every now and then but its broken. Nothing like the wild cocks i here about. Or the goldfinches online. My hen is eager to breed. Her beak is completely white now.

His beak is white with a black tip on the end and WONT SING! in view of the hen or not.

He is deff a cock bird. as my hen is squating for him. So is he just not ready?

1st thing that springs to mind is he/she a hermaphrodite showing male colours? A hen will present to another hen if there are no males and even mount each other.

She/he looks like a cock bird. in appearence. esp to the other hen. Twice the size. alot more colouring.

When in together they fight and guard the nest against each other. I just seperated them via wire last week so they can still see each other and they are now *esp the cock* growling at each other and beak fencing through the wire.
So you think i have two hens? If it is a cock bird, why is he behaving this way?

I bought them from a breeder as a pair. The apparant cock bird is twice the size of the hen and has twice the colouring and looks like a male. the other looks like a hen and is behaving like a hen.

The cock bird is behaving like i dont no!

I just had to put a board in for the wire because of the fighting and beak fencing going on. Maby they are siblings?

Sounds like a pair! Yet again Sorry I can't help more other than what I suggested. If they can't get along I'd be looking at replacing the cock bird.

I agree they sound incompatable, especially if they are fighting through the wire.

Personally I'd swap one of them with another of the same sex or if you can buy one or more pairs so your birds have plenty of choice in terms of selecting a mate.

All a matter of money and availablity. I went down to other side of country to collect a couple and he let me down and came home empty handed.

So yeah will have to wait and see. Do you think they are related which is why they are refusing to pair up
