well I was reading an article by a certain NEWTASSTRALIAN today, and he mentioned that anyone after breeding the "easy 3" (I'm assuming zebs bengalese and javas) may want to keep something different, and that was what the article (or 5) was about. anyway, among cubans, ruddies, longtail/mask/parson nun/mannikin/munia etc, he mentioned (and I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him)
"To finish off maybe we might let our heads go and grab a pair of Green singers, Oriental greenfinches or Mexican siskins to give us a cup nester for some variety."
oriental greenfinch? could they really be that good for a beginner? could someone like me really get some?? (no I'm NOT SAYING I AM/WOULD ORIX )

he also went on to say in another article (or 3) a whole heap of stuff, which after browsing through, very little/none seems to be negative
