For the past two weeks I have been away. While I was away we had a friend look after the birds etc.
One day we got a phone call from him saying that something got into the cages and he wasn't sure if it took the birds.
We think it was a fox because the cages were smashed up. The cages were dragged out of the garage out onto the drive way.

The birds taken were my pair of gouldians, my original pair of lovebirds and another pair of lovebirds. :(

I am still hoping that they are in the pine trees or some where, but a very small possibility.

PLEASE WATCH YOUR CAGES AND BIRDS AND MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE THEM IN A LOCKED UP SPOT WHEN YOU GO AWAY!!!!

Do you have a wild dog or even domestic dogs getting around at night ? Sorry for your losses , its always when you least expect it .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

We don't have wild dogs and the dogs around use are just let off to do sheep or cattle work and locked up at night.

Hi Charlie,

Awful news :(

I've had both stray dogs and foxes kill birds - and it's never nice.

maybe you should set up a trap near where the birds are and see what gets caught in there and then you'll know for sure what it was

Well what ever it is, it was sneaky as it was around 40 metres from our two labradors. I also have chickens and when I got back I went to check them and a wild bird was killed near them. So they are around.
Last night the foxes were talking to each other last nigh and a few very close to the house.

I`d be putting the labradors kennels closer to your birds.Foxes generally wont take the gamble with large dogs around.

Worst thing is they'll be back and more brazen. I had to combine trapping and baiting here. No foxes now but still get the odd wildcat.
