this is my zebra and it is really disgusting, i think a mice got into the cage and had a go at it and gave it some kind of a disease, i blocked the holes where a mice could possibly get into the cage, what should i do with it should i kill it and put it out of its misery because i dont want to put my other zebras at risk, thank you

Hi Finchman,
If you want to treat it I would try bathing the head with either chlorhexidine ( Hibiclens or even Aviclens) or dilute betadine.
Use warm water, gently rub the areas and try to make sure none gets into the eyes. If it does, just flush it out with clean water.
Repeat twice daily if you can. You should see a dramatic improvement after 5 days.
If the bird is in poor body condition and looks sick as well then you may have to put it down.

i wanted to do something about it but its a bit to late now i was going to put it down but my father said you should let it go behind the house, because there was a few big trees behind there he would go good in, so i ended up freeing it.

i have to say that was a pretty poor choice. not only are you most likely condemning it to a slow death from starvation, you may also expose wild birds to disease. captive birds should never be released. even euthanasia would have been a much better choice if you didn't want to put in the effort to get it back to health. if you can't handle sick animals, don't keep them. sorry to be blunt, but that's the way it is, and i KNOW there will be plenty of others on here reading this and thinking exactly what i have said.

i had kept the bird out of the cage for a week, then i set him free but he is still around the house so i can still recapture him and and help his condition im more than happy to help him i was just really confused at what to do with him, im also deeply sorry if i have offended anyone if i did the wrong thing by setting him free and hope i can be forgiven.

Yes please catch it up and try to help it .
You have to understand that we can be a passionate lot when it comes to our birds and yes it wasn't the right thing to do however it may still be rectified .
Hopefully it will turn out to be OK . And please heeds Spannas reply , releasing birds doesn't do any good for either the domestic bird or wild birds .

if it's still hanging around i would try and catch it again if you can. put some seed out for it and gradually move the seed closer and closer to some kind of trap, be it a safety door to your aviary or a small cage, then use a piece of string to close the door.
the thing about pets like finches is that yes, they are small and prone to injury and disease, but we have an obligation to do whatever we can to help them since they can't help themselves. they are in our cages, so they are under our care, and there is plenty of advice around to get most finches back up and about, as well as many reasonable vets if the need arises.
