Here is some photos of some new birds i just got. When we were catching them up, we assumed that we had two females. But now they are in the cage the one with the yellow band appears much brighter than the other hen bird and has a nice long tail. So is it a poorly coloured cock bird or a well coloured hen bird?

It is my guess that the banded bird is a hen and is a year older than the unbanded coloured hen.

I'm leaning towards a hen for the juvenile, but i'm not much good at picking them early.

Cheers
Ian

I'd say you have 3 hens. Yellow ring looks like a very nicely coloured hen.

Thanks Tiaris. That's what I was thinking, but is just such a difference between the two birds. But I suppose it is still a long way off being as vivid as the purple on a cock bird.

A couple of years ago I bred a lilac-breasted male. That was a bit confusing for while as it coloured up.
