Harvey, I think you or your dad may have to start delving deeper into genetics and taxonomy to see what can crossbreed. as far as I know, not many of the grassfinches can cross breed. I have only ever heard of parrot finches crossing with gouldians, longtails and any combination of masks/parsons, canaries with "fringilidae" old world finches (goldfinch, greenfinch, etc. etc.). Good luck!! I think I see another budding finch breeder!
