Hi, male 27 norway here, I'm new to finches, but not new to birds, I've had big parrots and budgies before, but after some years brake I now started up again and this time I went for finches, I never was intrested in them before and always just walked right past the finch cages in the zoo shop but suddenly this year I started get interested in them and watched youtube videos and decided I want finches:) and I dont regret it, lovely little birds:) and low noise level. and I don't have to struggle with taming them:p because these birds are more ment to just watch and enjoy and not having them sitting on the finger.
I know they should have big areas to fly in but this cage will do for now, will uppgrade later on when my flock increases.
I got them around 1 week ago, last 3 star finches that were left in store so they've been together in cage there, I think there is 2 males and 1 female, am I correct?
I also put in a nest and nesting material around 3 days ago, hoping for babys, but they haven't started building nest, any idea how loong it can take before I see some activity with the nest building?
hi im new, my star finches. update:8/7 now got egg

G'day and welcome to the AFF.

Definitely a pair of red faced but the yellow I'm not 100% sure could be a well coloured hen but I tend towards a male.Proxor wrote: I think there is 2 males and 1 female,

ok, the yellow faced can breed with the red faced female right? not only red face vs red face? becouse the yellow faced and female seem to hang more together, and the red faced male are mostly sitting alone singing hehe, the yellow face i have seen singing also so it is probably a male.Buzzard-1 wrote:G'day and welcome to the AFF.

Sorry mate I missed it, there is no physical reason why you can't join them. but true breeders try to keep colours true to type if you do breed them please tell the buyer of the young that they are yellow red head cross regardless of what colour they look like.Proxor wrote:the yellow faced can breed with the red faced female right?

ok, yeah i will tell buyers that, but the first ones wont be for sale becouse i want more of them myself
but thinking more of my first post, the stuff i asked at the end, "I put in a nestbox 3 days ago, the nesting material i got yesterday so that have only been in there for 1 day, they haven't started building nest, any idea how loong it can take before I see some activity with the nest building?"
