Hi and question, how good are finch eyes?

Hi All, I'm another newbe from Queensland (Joe!) and I have heaps to learn so I thought I should introduce myself and get started. So, hi!
Now, I just bought a pair of orange breasts. I have an avairy but It is for the larger birds such as parrots so the bars are too far apart. It looks like I will have to overlay the wire with mouse wire and make some other mods before I can put it to use. In the short term I have a portable cage which is roughly 1m+ by 1m+. Previously when I had cockateils I would move their cage and or avairy outside to various spots in and around the yard, verandas etc. I found that when I did this, local birds, especially pigeons and other smaller birds, would hang around and appeared to interact, though they were probably attracted by any shed seeds or husks as much as anything else. Anyway after years of feeling that I was giving my birds a bit of variety in their view I was told by someone that small grain eating birds are really short sighted so that they can get up close and personal with their forage and that trying to please them with a variety of surroundings was a bit of a waste of time. I have to admit that I just assumed that anything that flies must have pretty good vision otherwise it would tend to hit things pretty regularly. I know predators such as hawks and eagles are supposed to have excellent vision but is this the case with all birds?
So, it's too late to make a long story short, but the question is, does anyone know how good a finches vision is? Can they see 10m or more or less, should I bother moving their cage and aviary around occasionally or am I just wasting my energy. Thanks Joe.

in my opinion i'd say they have blooming excellent eyesight!! my finches will spot a hawk or eagle soaring hundreds of metres above the aviaries and fire off an alarm call...

Welcome to the forum. I don;t know what their eyesight is like. But have also noticed that they can spot a hawk or cat a fair way off. So

I think they have great eye sight & my Zeb's love me moving there home to another location for a look. But always like it when I return them to the family room as they like to be in the middle of the action.
