The brat pack were back this morning , dogs made this visit a nice short one , within the hour dozens of Red Rumps dropped in for a social visit .
They were all over the Red Rump aviaries having a chat , no stressed out birds or aviarys being destroyed ...Nice.
to feed wild birds or not to feed w birds?

At my place there are no free food handouts, only water in bird baths.
the locals seem to find food no worries but for wrens etc water close by is more important in my dry part of the world.
i have planted native bushes for cover and some nectar sources and they do the rest.
the galahs, redrumps, rosella's etc like to descend on your lawn for a chew because its tough finding a feed mid-winter.
so my view is help them to help themselves via habitat creation rather than food offerings.my locals and my finches too for that matter prefer the wild grasses to finch mix anyway.

True about the Indian Miners .... still getting visits to the bird bath by the smaller parrots and the original pair of galahs that have visited daily for months .

Jusdeb theres lots of parrots in dubbo My grandad keeps Red wing's in his massive parrot aviarys ( he lives in dubbo) Do you see wild red wings?

This year has been the first year Ive seen them here . They are also in Guerie , another place they are not known to hang out .
Climate changes I suppose , floods etc have drawn them here ...

I've seen Red-winged just up at Coonabarabran, but if you look at this Distribution Map I prepared earlier (yeah, I'm a cartographic nerd, What of it?)
Dubbo is that Black Dot.
It's amazing how much the Parrots of Dubbo have changed since all the inland Rains, last time I went there (a few months ago) I saw Cockatiel, Blue Bonnets and Mallee Ringnecks, none of which I had seen down there before!

Theres always been Quarrion about especially on the edges of town .
Bluebonnets and Mulgas are often seen out of town though not in big numbers .
Never seen a Mallee Ringneck here , there is a elusive type of Parrot getting about In Beni State Forest but I never get close enough to identify ...it is of Mallee size .
The bloody things just dont sit still long enough to see properly.

On My Grabdfather 800 acer farm ( out of town of welington near dubbo) Wich I spend one month of the year at every year I see King parrots, red rumps , eastern rossela , Blue bonnets , Galahs , Sulpher creasted cockatoo , Little corella , Long billed corrella, Turqoise parrots , Zebra finches , double barred finches , Diamond Firetail finches , Diamond doves , Squotter pigions and stubble Quail.
