if someone is saying a price rise is attributed to the carbon tax then i would say they are profiteering as the tax does not come into effect until july next year !!! i work in a coal fired power station and live in a coal mining district . its any ones guess as to how this will play out in the short term.just consider that total electricity demand in nsw right now is 10500 million watts (AEMO web site) the sun is not shining so the 300 million watts of roof top solar is not doing too much . there is a bit of wind around so the 1700 million watts of wind turbines (total across all australia ) is contributing lets say 1000 million watts . this leaves 9500 million watts of power required to satisfy demand . now whether we like it or not coal fired generation of electricity is by far the cheapest , its always available and we have plenty of it . wind farms don't do so good when the wind isn't blowing and solar output is only available 20-25% . so where to from here you ask . carbon capture ? nuclear? what ever the answer is its going to be an interesting ride !!!

Avishoot, Tell that to the thousands of workers at coal-fired powerstations in the La Trobe valley being bought out & decommissioned as part of phase 1 of this package.

I doubt if we will get anywhere,The Red Head only gives lip service to the people and seems to walk over some of her own party.
As long as she cuddles up to Brown and 2 of the limited addition independants why should she worry.
Regardless of who wins the next election they will have a huge mess to clean up.With luck maybe before hand if her own party gets the guts to do the correct thing for our country.
I hope that the 4.9% unemployment doesn't reach 6+% as it most likely will and our power bills increase another 20%
Lets hope common sense prevails
We could solve a great deal of the worlds problems by eradicating the plauge that is overrunning the world, and using the resources needed by all species not just the plague. But that won't happen because the plague is of human beings. So. Being rational. It behoves us to do what we can to preserve the world that was bequethed to us by our forebears to caretake for our decendants. And if the rest of the world chooses to do the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing right along with them is hardly the answer. No I dont like the increasing costs any better than anyone else, and from what I have heard so far it will hurt me and mine. But lets do what we can for the world, giving priority to those things that are effective in the various areas. e.g. Solar power in the sunny areas, wind power in the windy areas, tidal power where there are ocean tides and hydro power where there are rivers. And yes, lets make sure we do consider if these sources of power will harm the natural environment in that area. No sence solving one problem by making a bigger one. My 2 cents worth. (though with inflation it's probably 5 cents worth)
