The cost of running a heat lamp os a bit more expensive than a 60watt light globe, and this is based of a single 75 watt reptile light and also depends on how many lights how long your going yo run them, to many factors to explain.

Hey nathan,
Its hard to provide an estimate of how much cost a lamp would be per week. best option is to drop in to a a good pet shop that sells the lamps, have a chat to the dealer and or read any brochures about the lamps themselves. From what I have seen around the place, most of the better pet shops will be able to provide brochures (and if not, do some research on the internet regarding the lamp you are looking at).
As you have been advised in an earlier post, its almost spring and so weigh up the dollars it would cost and see if it is worth it.
Up here in QLD where I am we have had temps down to -5 degrees overnight ( a week or so ago, it was -5 at 6am and -6 at 7amw with a heavy frost) here but to date (touch wood) I have not had any losses due to the cold. I have read through this forum countless times that the main issue is to prevent any wind / drafts and you prevent most issues. I have put in home-made clear plastic curtains (thick plastic sourced from Bunnings and held in place by sandwiching it between lengths of aluminium angle. Keeps out the drafts, allows light in and I think it will keep the interior a bit warmer than the open air.
For your info I am keeping RH and BH gouldians, Zebs (mostly white) and a pair of Ruddies. Most winter nights all of the adult finches roost in spare nests (both wicker and box types), the juvenile gouldians simply roost together although their avairy also has a few empty nests if they want to climb in. So think about whether or not you need a heat lamp and provide all the necessary bits and pieces (as in electricity!!) or simply make some much cheaper adjustments to your existing avairies.

oh my god.
nathan, are you honestly going to start a thread for every possible do-it-yourself project you can think of and then incessantly badger everyone over "what it would cost?" without giving any information or doing ANY and by that i mean ANY research yourself?!!!
from now on kid, i beg you, please - before you ask ANYTHING - get on google. do some research. absorb the information already posted on this site. don't type. just read. make a plan. then come back to us. you will find people SO MUCH more willing to help when you show some initiative to help yourself first.

I have stopped replying to his requests for similar reasons. I dont mind helping or contributing to the forum members requests. Other reasons why on here now is interactions with alike minded people, encouragement and new ideas. BUT there is a limit one can take from the same repetitive questions on most subjects.
Life in Port Macquarie is the ultimate Aussie sea change lifestyle.

There are three options here;
Answer a silly or annoying question with a silly or annoying answer. (Not very mature, but my first choice)
Just write "GOOGLE IT" in large type, (Could be helpful or educational)
Just ignore it ( ill mannered but time saving and doesn't encourage the behaviour)
All said in with the best of intentions.
