Probably just seeing if theres others of their kind around . Its funny to watch the body language and hear the calls when they first come home and are settling in.

Any new grass parrots here set of the rest of the gang , sounds awesome with them all trying to out whistle each other .

Nathan, youll find that there just seeing if any other birds around, its also to show you their happy and wanting to get settled. Good luck with them.

The male hecks longtailed finch buffs up his bib and starts hissing it is really wierd.

If he's puffing his chest out and making strange noises he's singing. Every cock we've had has a different song, we can tell which bird is which by the song. It's multi note and the first one we ever had (early 80s) sounded like a squeaky gate.

It will take a little while for him to develop his full song if he's a young bird, ours haven't had their song "finalised" before reaching maturity generally.

It's one of the things I love about long-tails - every song we've had has been completely different so it gives each bird an individual character. I don't know if there might be a family likeness to the songs (we've always had unrelated birds) - hopefully I'll find out if ours start breeding once they're in a bigger flight.
