I have been told that I can have finches and canaries together? Is this right?
Are canaries just a boring old yellow though or are there diffrent colours in those too?

Google canaries (varieties) and I think you will get a pleasant surprise as to the range of colours and body styles avavilable .
And yes they go well together of course this depends on the dynamics of your aviary .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

I brought a canary and he gets on great with the 23 finchs he lives with. They are a gentle bird so I guess it would depend on finch but my fellow has no prob with zebs/societys/red face/stars .very avid feeder he is first down for anything from seed and veg to mealworms but never agressive

Canary's can be good to train finch to try new foods by example, but as said on many occasions they can be food hogs.

Hi Samantha I do mix some of finches with canaries, just watch the canaries around food dish as some can be dominating around the food dishes at breeding season, if this happens best to place multiple food dishes such as live food, fruit and vegies, this hasn't happened to me very much and if it does will prevent your finches breeding result, on an up side its good to watch a male Canary sing and then the male finches start to sing and as buzz said they do teach finches to eat food they don't normally try.
