A male Pintail Whydah will try and display to anything not just Pintail hens.Even young uncoloured young males will try and display.
Their size is in relation to the size of their hoste specie which is the Saint Helena Waxbill
A male in full colour displaying to a hen is a terrific site.

I had some male zebra finches that were definitely homosexual - despite the ready availability of hens.
