Happy day. Spring has certainly sprung.

spring has very much sprung in Brisbane, 25C days and nights around 12C. Currently have ruddies, cordons, OB's and jacs on the perch, gouldians, green singers, golden song sparrows squaking in nest, califonia quails nesting, and that is what I can find easily.
Cheers

Spring has sprung up this way as well, 32 degrees here today. Nests full of babies, almost everywhere buy in the nest boxes, lol. Bought some new nest boxes to add to the variety of different ones I had, and some zebs built under a seed box I left in there one day when I was runnin late for work. So I thought I would put a heavy glass jar on top that I kept some egg and biscuit in, so the wind wouldn't blow it away, and there is another nest on top of the jar, only 1 in a nest box so far, lol. I think I will give up on the boxes.
What type of nest do you guys use for bengalese ? My pair seem to be thinking about building on top of a standard finch box as well ? I have cane baskets, boxes with round holes, boxes with half open front, and the old plastic flower pot, and so far with all my finches, the open front and flower pots seem most popular with all the birds. Last year my gouldians chose the flower pot as well.

I look forward to more swaps.SamDavis wrote:Maybe we can do a few swaps (painted/stars/cordons/etc.) at some stage. The diamonds you mention should be independent shortly, so I'll catch them up in a week or so.
I think I may have scared one pair of paints off their nest (with my idiot curiosity), but the other paints are busy.
Needless to say, I daren't look at the stars or cordons and am eagerly hoping for fledglings every time I go out.
Only got two from that clutch of OBs... ....maybe the cold snap.
It is such a great time of year in the aviary.
Mine use boxes sometimes, but like to make their nests in behind them as well, like yours.CQDude wrote:What type of nest do you guys use for bengalese ?
I deprived them of boxes in an effort to stop them breeding, so they have been building in bare branches and on shelves.
Unstoppable once they get going; I saw my first clutch of them this spring just yesterday.
Avid amateur aviculturalist; I keep mostly australian and foreign finches.

My Bengos will go any sort of wooden box and also do well in metal fish floats with a hole drilled in them. Trouble with spring is the mice start to show up round here.
And have to start clearing a nice wide strip either side of the back fence to fire proof the place, and discourage snakes, cause I back onto bushland.
