Moving my Canaries

The baby wants to get out but looks like he is having trouble getting out of the nest,.
Should i help the canary out of the nest or just wait a little longer.Mum is still feeding her and dad is singing his head off.

Hes probably just testing his strength and wings out, I think you have another day before the 23 days are up dont you? Best to leave him in there, than have him outside a little "underdone"

I agree with BB, but add a note of caution.
I had a chick that seemed to have trouble leaving the nest when I had just started keeping birds, and I left him though his nestmates had left the nest. A couple of days later he still hadn't left, so I checked him out and he was tied into the nest. There was a bit of what looked like fishing line built into the nest (I don't know where it came from) and the chick's leg was all tied up. When I freed it, it was quite deformed and greatly impaired in function, but to my surprise and delight it came completely good in about 5 days.

So I would say leave it a couple of days, watch closely, and inspect if you have concern.

They will usually leave when they are ready. If you check then they will usually jump out and won't go back in. If it does jump out, then put the nest on the floor and it may go back in. If it seems like it is having trouble or is caught then I would check itss leg. As I ring my chicks I usually see if there are any problems.

I now have 4 chicks this morning. It still surprise me how I can set 4 nests on the same day and ony one nest hatches today and the other will hatch a day later. Must have something to do with how the hen sets on the nest.

Something else that I am experiencing. I have a cock that each night for the last 2 nights has been sitting on the eggs under the brooding hen. I have never experienced this before. I have been taking him out and putting him in a seperate breeding cabinet and putting him back in the morning with the hen . I just wish he would sit on the perch at night instead of sitting on the eggs. I have never had a cock sit on the nest on eggs. I had another cock from the same family as the other cock that sat on the newly hatched chicks today when the hen was off the nest feeding, but then got off when the hen came back on the nest. All these new age guys. I have never seen that either.

NNo luck just yet,the baby is still in the nest will give him a few more days to fledge.
The hen has now layed 2 eggs and by the look of her(fat)she has a few more to come.

The other 3 nests hatched this morning. I now have two nest of 4 chicks and one nest with 2 chicks and the other nest with 1 chick. Total 11 chicks.

The surprise is that the nests with 4 chicks didn't have the cock in with them after they were set, and the hens with 2 and 1 chick both have cocks in with them all the time. All nests had 4 eggs.

Now just hope that they survive.

Well guys i just helped the little baby out of his nest as he was having trouble getting out.
Now i know why.
Hes not good his legs are spread and can not stand on them,i remember Canary saying this could happen because he was a single baby in the nest.
Now what to do,he is flapping around on the floor of cabinet it does not look good for the little fella,Harv will post a pic when he gets home,he will be upset.
I need advice on what to do now.

Oh thats a shame Harvey will be so disappointed.
I have heard of braces being made for finches withe splayed legs, from bandaids and various other items, found one website with pics using pipe cleaners, not using a canary though.
