  sorry Deb :(
yeah finch seed/mash/starter crumbles on the floor are always a good idea, and also fill the quail water dish with marbles (preferably brightly coloured) so the water level is just over them, that way the chicks won't drown :) also if they're brightly coloured the parents will be more interested in the new look and not be so wary of it.
try chopping up some mealworms if you've got any as well when the next ones hatch, it's hilarious especially when there are lots of them!

 Thats a shame. I agree with Jayburd about the mealworms, its a sight to behold. Last clutch I had took a liking to small earwigs, when cleaning the aviary I moved the seed and water containers and about 20 tiny earwigs were underneath, the young quail were bouncing off each other trying to get to them.
After a couple of times after that the young would wait to pounce!

Any insects will get quail excited. Green grubs off your flowers, cockroaches off the roof, wood slaters, all have cause excitement at one time or another, as well as any chance to beat the finches to theirs.

I got some chick starter today , not medicated .
Thought I might crunch them down a bit in the food processor and get the parent birds use to them before the eggs hatch out .
