Fragile birds that are by all acounts very frustrating. Do not sit on their young at night after a few days (maybe a week) so if left to their own devices may not be very succesful. Many breeders I know take their eggs and place them under canaries (lizards from memory) to avoid them the babies freezing to death on a cooler night.

yeah this has been my first season with a pair and they seemed good to start with the hen was sitting everyday & night (i thought) but then she stopped, when I looked in the nest there was nothing inside ?? I had left them for 4 weeks from the time she started sitting before I checked the nest so I have no idea if there was anything in the nest in the first place or if the eggs were thrown out or eaten ????

Now they seem to be re-constructing a new nest fingers crossed sumfin happens lol

They are an interesting finch to have tho i luv em :)

No luck yet, they seem interested as they are making nests here and there. I've currently got them housed alone so they wont have any disruptions from other birds but i guess we'll see what happens. The weahter hasn't been very consistent or quite warm enough just yet so maybe later on.
