Loz - read your article on the Finches '11 in the local club rag at Mum's place. BB will be getting you to write for the mag soon. Mum has just joined up here too. She is still in the local group and a mini group up here do the budgie thing now.
I still don't get to the local group due to working weekends frequently. As I recall you were into Parrot finches and doing well with them in your days up here.

Hi spanna mate,
Yeah it took me a while but i got here in the end.
I was talking to garymc a couple of weeks ago and he said that there was a lot of people from the convention that i'd know on the AFF.
I was looking forward to catching up with you on the 15th of Oct when Graham Bull came to WA for this talk. Garymc told me you guys had a BBQ on the same day. It sounds like you guys had fun at the BBQ from reading the posts.
Picts are going okay. I'm still having trouble with them throwing out the young. But in the end i got one youngster in winter time without any live food. Go figure?? Anyway trying out a few other tricks to get them on the perch!!
Hows your breeding season going?? Hand raise that Gouldian chcik okay in the end??

Yeah there are quite a few on here that went to the convention.
I was still havin a chat at the BBQ when Graham was giving his talk  so missed that.
Got a few pictas myself but no interest in nesting yet... Haven't had much luck with keeping them (cockbirds in particular for whatever reason) healthy either, have made a few changes but think I need some new/redesigned aviaries  not sure if they may have been unwell when I purchased them.
Raised the gouldian fine and was weaned and still tame as an inside pet, but escaped one day, got attacked by a honeyeater and hightailed it south, haven't seen him since. Bit (a big one) of a shame really, but a mistake I'll never make again: don't change seed outside!!!!
Breeding season going well though, decent numbers of diamonds hitting the perches which I'm happy with, rest doing pretty well too.
Shame you missed the BBQ, we said we'd have to have another in a while so you'll have no excuse second time round.

I've had many conversations with quite a few very knowledgable finch breeders and have said that they can sit there in the cage for up to 18 months before they do anything??? I don't know they are really funny birds hay. Youi don't even know they are sitting on eggs or even have young sometime because they are so secrective.
I went through 2 different pairs of Cordon Bleus before i got them going!! It just goes to show that 2/3's of finch species can be easy to cater for but if you don't have a healthy compatable pair of finches you are not going to breed nothing.
Its good to hear about the good numbers of diamonds that you are breeding!! Thats one finch i've never kept yet. One day hay!!
