Aw Nathan isnt that what this forum is for ? Surely most people on here love sharing their knowledge of Birds and Questions and are willing to help out. Not everyone has friends or family who have Birds that you can have a chat to peoples
Never ever be afraid to do whats right if the well being of an animal is at stake.

YES IT IS!!
40 years ago . . no forums then . . I used to write heaps of letters to people I didn't know, asking for advice . . I always included a stamped self-addressed envelope
Must have annoyed some as a few didn't reply . . But the vast majority did, and some lasting friendships were made
60 years ago . . The kid next door and I would constantly be knocking on doors . . "Can we see your birds, mister?" . . Probably a bit annoying, but I am sure that we were seen as someone who might keep the hobby going . . or at the worst someone who would buy their surplus birds

Gotta love his enthusiasm, like you said Arthur, Nathan is just knocking on "virtual" doors like we all did as kids.
Nothing better than to view someones established aviaries and be gobsmacked by all the birds, at a young age it can set up a lifetime in aviculture.
I certainly bow to your experience Arthur....into birds 60 years ago.....wow!
We may have lost some varieties over your time but i think the average collection gets far better living conditions now than in the good old days, and our forum can only help them.
Hang in there Nathan....the last thing we want is to discourage you
