Today I was travelling home along the M7 near Crystal Pet And Wire at Rooty Hill. I've often sold them birds, so I drop in to check out what they have. A few unusual or rare finches in stock as well as the usual species. Noticed a few red headed pytilias for $290 a pair which seemed an okay price. They had Peter's Twinspot cocks for $330 each, cheap but I leave them - finding hens would surely be near impossible. A pair of pied diamonds for $1090 (yikes!) Then in another cage with some blue caps ($450) I've spotted a pair of yellow winged pytilias, but no price on the cage. I've been thinking of getting some for a while so I ask and they're the same price as the red headeds - $290. I'm thinking, they're normally $400 - $500 plus and this is a dealer, so more like $500 - $600. I'm sure they've made a mistake as Mark who buys the finches isn't around. Anyway they look to be a really healthy young pair, so I got them.
And a plug for Crystal Pet and Wire - It's the cleanest healthiest bird shop in Sydney by a long shot! And they're doing their own finch mix - looks good, currently on special at $19.90 for 20kg so I got a few bags.
