Having considered, I'm not sure an electric fence would work all that well. A line around the edge of the roof is one thing, but the possums and probably the cats too just drop on the roof from the gum tree above... Perhaps a row of those pigeon spikes along te roofs apex would complete the deterrence?
Flap, I have a wall of bricks about a foot high and at the too of that level is where the current level of the floor is. We didn't like to put metal around the base, but perhaps some shade cloth would do the trick?

Jay if you buy a large enough system, i'd be putting electrified wire around the property boundary fences, several strands on the edges of your aviary and strands across the top as well.

Maybe another member could start a new thread with some photos show how they have fortified/electrified their setups.

It would work,the Possums may drop down once or twice.They will remember that they were zapped there and stay away.
Its like the bright orange electric fence tape,many horse and cow paddocks are just tape as the stock remembers in means a shock and stay away.
As I said before speaking from experience once zapped not forgotten
Many years ago a friend in SA had a dog who lifted his leg on one, after that the dog refused to anywhere near his aviary.
Can't blame it I guess.

Are you allergic to dogs Jayburd ? They are the number one problem solver as far as cats n possums go.

But with all this support, there is no way you can give up. We will all lynch you if you do

Just use the opportunity to check over everything about your aviary set up, and if all seems ok then replace the lost birds if you are still keen on those species or cull the ones that haven't met your expectations and go from there.

There has been some great advice about electric fencing etc and your trusty beagle should take care of the rest.

Now go and punch something, or have a "Tourette's" tirade, if it makes you feel better

Orix, I'll be looking into fences...
DB, I have an aged beagle (turned nine on sunday) but she's actually afraid of the cats
Plus she has to be tied up when outside otherwise she'll be off in the neighbourhood before you can say "gouldian"
Myzo, I don't think I want to be lynched!! guess I have no choice then
Saw the cat again today, so it's definitely hanging around... but not for long
I put all the birds back in the aviary as I felt when in there they would have enough space to get away, plus obviously the cage didn't work so well... all fine and happy this morning got through the night no probs
Perhaps the thinning of the herd has made them harder to panic.
