I posted pictures of the same colour cock birds last year misso and was told SF YB Dilute. I put him to a YB Hen and they thru the same colour cock bird. Too much Blue in the back to be Sea Green i think. As i asked the same question. Even a pair of Split Blues thru the same back colour last year.
Also the back colour has still stayed the same after both moulted 1 being 2yrs old and the other 1yr old and both are paired back to YB hens again this year at dads.
Breeding Show Zebra Finches, Blue Gouldians, Pied Orange Breast.

Correct me if I am wrong but. A SF YB (dilute) should not have a black line round the back of the head according to what I have been told and read.

Yes FB, a SFYB has the black line and bib go blue so if it has a black bib it's not a SFYB.

Yes Finchbreeder you are correct.
No Natamambo you are incorrect, a SF YB has the black become grey. The black only becomes a blue colour on DF YB.
These are the simple mistakes that get passed around on forums and can get believed by newcomers. Try to be accurate with the information you pass on as fact. :)

It's mighty blue on my birds and is very white on my DF birds. I can accept that black will be grey on SF black headed birds, but it's more blue than grey on red headed birds in my collection.

Could you post a photo of these birds.
What I generally find with the SF YB is that the ring around the neck appears blue, but on closer inspection it is simply the effect of the grey blending into the blue.
However with the bib I have never seen a SF YB where the bib appears anything other than grey, regardless of head colour.
The exception to this is where the white breast is involved, but to be fair this is the introduction of another mutation which also changes how the back colour reacts.
And yes the bib and lines do go more white than blue on a DF YB. :)
And to Simba : I have no idea, thus no response for you.
