I reckon passing out from exhaust fumes or drowning would be very unpleasant experiences to endure. Give me an instant switch off if I ever get to that stage please. Any method of killing an animal which is not absolutely immediate is guaranteed to cause significant stress & trauma immediately prior to death. Swiftly brutal methods may seem barbaric, but if we are at the stage of terminating the life of a suffering animal we need to be extremely quick and overwhelmingly direct in our approach - cruel to be kind. If you can't stomach any instant method yourself please ask for the assistance of someone who can. This is an unpleasant but essential part of being a responsible & caring aviculturist.

i dont think this method would be very nice... quick snap of the neck or a quick blow to the head would be my method.

OK, just a thought.Never had to kill and it's something that would be hard.Still you got to do what you got to do to end a suffering bird when there is no hope.
Been getting mice and thats my way with them a bucket of water and plop.

Pop the vertebrae with your thumb, pop the vertebrae in the scissors handle or quick snip with the scissors - all effective and none ruin the body for later post mortem. There's nothing like concrete to bloody up a pm specimen internally.
