As mentioned at least one juvenile was spotted poking its head out of a burrow, they seem to be happy, its a first captive breeding . Its not a bad recreation of their environment as they dont go too far from the burrows.

Looks an impressive setup for the lizards. I hope there's nothing that can burrow in and eat their young - great shame about the pig-footed bandicoot! In another observation, why even in the zoo business do they build "aviaries" for non-avian species, surely lizards need sauriaria? I guess if the term isn't used now my observation is hardly going to start a trend

Chuck a couple of sparrows in and then you can call it an aviary. Maybe "Herpetarium" or "Reptarium" could describe it better for the pedants amongst us. A Herpiary sounds more like a medical complaint and a Reptiary could be at the back of a church! I'd stick to "Reptile Enclosure."

The biggest threat is Perenti`s , the footings are closer to 700mm and the Dingoes live a few metres from the enclosure, maybe the smell of dogs is enoughto keep the Perenti`s at bay, its a high traffic area and for now that seems to have stopped burrowing critters getting in, or at least discouraged likely contenders.
What i really like to do , is be involved in small projects that can be adaptable and change with trends and funding. In a day or two we could house a variety of different birds, mammals or reptiles in that enclosure and we are building or modifying other enclosures to the same standard. Throw a roof on and theres no reason why Painted Finches couldnt be housed in there or a pair of Black Honey Eaters.

If there like Lacies & Sandies, not a chance, I've got 4 dogs, & had three Lacies from 3 to 5 1/2 feet trying their best on Saturday. The bigger one was about 10 fett from the dog pen trying to raid the chook pen.

I reckon your chooks might present as a better target VR, they smell, they`re loud and they`re possibly a whole lot more visible than a skink living in a burrow behind a tin wall. We do have sandy`s and a few Perentis cruising around but so far so good , and no sign thats somethings tried to dig in after 18 months. Dont jinx us :shh:
