Think Terry Pratchet and Discworld. Fate has decided to leave Rincewind alone for a while and have a go at me.
Hubby heads off down the track to Bunnings last evening. Barely left and he is singing out. :whoa: Has found a young dove on the firebreak/track, no nest/parents in sight. Here you are look after it. Well a quick look and it looks healthy, but an empty crop. Quick improvised feeding of crushed biscuit crumbs and wheatbix in water. I do not handraises. :whoa: Junior seems fine this morning. More of the same and adding finch seed to the mix.
Help! Any advise.

Make sure seed is on the floor of the cage as if it has fledged it will start to pick if there is something to pick at. Might wean sooner than you think. Pic would be good.

It has feathers on the wings but still only fluff on the head and body.

If it can't fly at all the nest must be in your yard or close, otherwise it's about a 2 week stint until it is independent.

At the end of the day Jay all that matters is you like them and DB isnt going to eat them. I would probably have them to but all the ones that have strayed have been riddled with mites and the such, but I did have my eye on some spotted ones last year that seemed to be more of a brown/ red than the pink if you knw what I mean, they were only released over here to help the migrants to feel more at home along with those pesky squirels at the zoo,.... pete
