Hi all. Have my first ever Gouldian hatchlings, which I'm very please about. I've got four chicks and four eggs. Question for the more experienced Gouldian breeders...do you often get unhatched eggs when others have hatched? if so, what sought of ratio from hatched to non-hatched?

It's been two days since the last hatchling appeared and thinking there may not be any further.

So that means that you had a nest with eight eggs? If you have a few spare hens then that could mean that more than one hen has laid in the same nest. Fairly common for Gouldians. Don't worry, if a few of the other 4 hatch in the next few days it should be OK, just some of the chicks will be behind, the early birds will leave the nest, and some will stay behind... or follow. Don't worry, be happy with 4.
Just keep up the sprouted seed and greens.

Good luck.

Thanks matcho. I'll keep an eye on things and see how it turns out.

With the first round of the season its not uncommon to have the odd clutch all infertile as some pairs seem to struggle with synchronising their readiness to breed. Usually by the next attempt infertile eggs are a rarity - maybe the odd clutch with one clear & the rest fertile. Very large clutches are sometimes difficult for the incubating parents to effectively cover all eggs whilst sitting, but as already said if you can get 4 healthy young out of a clutch you can't complain.

Took four eggs out of the nest as they had well and truly been pushed aside and were very cold. Checked a couple and they were empty if anything (not even white and yolk). Other two appeared infertile but five chicks in the nest. Not sure what happened but very happy with the five chicks.

Cookey,

Posted a reply a few days ago, but it appears that it has been lost in the ether. Checked my boxes and wicker nest the other day after two weeks. Have at least 4 or 5 with 8+ eggs and a few with at least 5. Another 2 weeks will tell the story. Good luck.
