Hi all,
Just wanted to share some interesting obs with my little button male...
Since I put the doves in yesterday morning (after worming etc.) the little button seems to have become significantly less shy.
The turtle doves spend quite a bit of time on the floor, and the quail sees to find that comforting in some way. He's been out all morning pecking away beside the doves.
He still runs off to hide when I approach the aviary, but he's out and about when I'm watching if I keep still, which he never used to do.
Perhaps he just likes the company. Since the female died he's been all alone. I'm working on getting another hen, but it won't be until April when the chicks the breeder has are ready to sell.
Also today I saw for the first time the "rocking" behaviour I've read about. H sat down, tipped onto his toes, then started to rock back and forth from his toes onto his heels and back again. He did this five or six time until her moved off, and started again in a different spot.
Could someone enlighten me as to why they do that or is it just a quirk of the species?
That's all
LBQ behaviour
