Noticed today that one of my canaries has red swollen back toes on each foot. He is eating and flying OK.
Pics aren't good but any help would be great.

Thanks
Harv

Is this little fella in the new aviary ? Just a thought that something in the new part is aggravating or has injured the foot .

Harvey can you get some photos that are in focus as that will give people a better idea. The 2 things which spring to mind without being able to see properly are mosquito bites which are inflamed/infected or avian pox. Have a close look at all your other canaries, particularly on their feet and in the corners of their beaks and would recommend isolating him until you get a diagnosis.

Could it be bumblefoot? I believe canaries can be prone to this.

Harvey

I would suspect that it is mosquito bite. Some clearer photos would help.

If it is mosquito bite it will be infected and look like pus in the swelling.

I have in the past pricked with a sterilized pin to release some of the pus and then soaked the toe in diluted Dettol morning and night.

Sometimes it got better, and sometimes they have lost the toe nail.

Thanks Canary,

I looked at it again today and is no worse but the other foot is looking like it has the some problem its only the back toes on each foot.
The bad toe has a callus on it,the canary has no problem perching on it that i can see.
I have some Detol cream on hand will that be ok to use.I have put the canary in a cage by himself.

Thank You

Harv.

I need a new camera
