Only give the pine nuts as a treat or reward .

Nathan,
Any nuts are very rich nad can be fattening if fed regularly. Only use them as an occasional treat as Deb suggests.
Mallee Ringnecks have evolved in fairly dry areas where there isn't a lot of rich food like nuts around.
Give him plenty of fresh vegies and greens and seeding grasses on a regular (daily) basis.
There are also some really good behavioural DVDs around on training birds and understanding bird body language that you might want to have a look at. These feature Barbara Heidenreich. They are available from Australian Birdkeeper magazine, as well as some bird shops and bird vets.
Good luck with your new bird.

They are very nice birds! Good luck!
Though I don't really think believing in evolution and being Christian are mutually exclusive. But I guess we shouldn't get into it here!

Evolution is no longer a question of faith, but training a parrot has alot to do with them believing in you and you in them.
