It certainly is possible to clean up the head colour by selecting only the best young to breed from (with the cleanest head colour).

Have not seen any yellows that are closer to yellow than orange in a long time. It seems the "cleaner" birds are less yellow and more orange. So that is the way breeders colour selection is going. Hope to have a pic on the "Gouldians - What are we" thread showing mum with the young. She is a pretty clean orange head, and representative of what we have for sale.
