Is the new aviary facing same way as old one? is their nesting area in same position relative to old aviary...same amount of shade area? trees etc? just putting things out there for consideration.....

Or - sorry to be negative - but it is an unfortunate possability. Is the cock that died the only one that was fathering chicks?

Vettapilot- the aviery has changed direction to NW from SW, there's more protection being x6 larger than the last the brush is about the same in thickness but way more of it and still with stars and st helenas which weren't any problems previously. Might take another year to see what happens, just might be they don't like their new home.
Finchbreeder- you might be right in saying that only one male might be fathering, last year during breeding season I do recall alot of the times that I was watching them that there were 4 about most times and 2 assumed were on nests just might be that he was the lead cock to get breeding season on the way.

With luck, once the other boys realise he is missing. They will then feel the need to exert themselves. Good luck.

Well update on this situation, did a good clean today in double bars flight, floor walls and clean and taking nests out I stumbled across a nest basket that I through in the Palm branches there was a nest of DB's 7 babies all dead approx about 7 days old. So they did at least try but the male which died must be the father. Also found a second nest with 5 eggs that got abandoned or were in fertile. At least there was some good news that they tried. Now back to the drawing board foe next year gota see what needs changing maybe another pair and a cock might need new blood to try and stir things up I reckon.

Possums are 100% no cats I don't thinks so as all my aviery is completely covered except for a bit at the front. As for mice I had 3 dead outside my shed which is about a metre away and killed one inside, is there anymore I can't exactly say but baits have all been layer and the only baits that have been eaten are the ones in and around my shed. I have list about 5 birds over the last two months with broken necks and this was how the male died. I am now trying new ideas which I have read here on how I can change my feeding and watering stations to eliminate any food or water source as to stop any excess food laying around or easy access to water. I don't believe that anything else maybe getting in and disturbing them except for mice and the only entrance that they have to get in in my opinion is the aviery door. I'm always checking for new ideas to improve my setup but I'm limited to only inside as the whole of the outside is lined colorbond.
