Believe it or not, this works. Make a wire mesh cage and prop the end up with a stick. Attach a string to the end of the stick, place some food and water under the cage and wait patiently.

Once the Ruddie goes in, pull string and re-capture in cage. I would put the cage near the parents. Works everytime for me.

Ah safety area, wish i had of thought of that when i built it and regret it every time i open the door.

a strategy similar to suggested by cookey worked, I had a cage with one side up pushed against the aviary and eventually he went in and i pulled the string.
