I think mice might be stealing them god damnit!! We have baits out, but they're obviously not doing the trick!!

Time to get some metal sheeting around the front of that aviary to stop em climbing up the wire I think!!

My sympathies to you. It is so frustrating when they vanish without a trace. Sometimes they die and parents remove from nests then mice eat.

In Normal and Yellow-back Gouldian chicks, the 2 center nodules are yellow, while the 4 outer nodules are always blue. In a Blue-back mutation Gouldian the 2 inner nodules are always white.

One breeder has told me that they can identify Blue Gouldian chicks by the colour of their skin/flesh when newly hatched. Apparently they are a darker blue in colour rather than pink in colour? Does anyone else agree with this or has concluded this with their own experiences?

Yes I do to a degree. The skin colour is different, especially on a silver.

Thanks Diane, Im trying to identify a few clutches of young. My oldest young i.e just about to fledge, are now dark blue, pin feathered and nothing like the colour that of the mutations that appear in your link. Normals I suspect.

The feathers on a blue in the nest are easily identified, they are grey.
