that's a lot of painteds!!! I don't think I could ever breed "too many birds" except maybe zebras...

They were most likely young birds bred this year.With that in mind their first and even second nest of eggs maybe infertile.
Just another hurdle to see if you are patient or not. In the future you will just think how easy it is to breed them when you keep
doing the correct things.

Hmm...
Well I've tried to leave them as alone as possible, I haven't touched the nest. I can see the eggs from the outside because there's a pretty big entrance hole.
They've had soaked seed everyday.... Greens as often as possible etc.

Hope they are fertile.

I was lucky this season with a pair of cutthroats from this season with there first nest 3 out 5 eggs were fertile and now got 3 chicks fledged out today and another pair of this seasons has given me 4 infertile nests of eggs.

my painteds where like that first and second nest infertile third nest deserted the chicks
mine have gone to nest again

Sorry to hear jay that the eggs might not he any good, they should go down again quick and hope for the best. Keeping your distance and feeding soaked seeds ECT aren't a bad thing at all this will help them settle down again quick. I know what you mean about having large entrance and see right in with out getting close.

That's a shame jayburd. They are a young pair so as others say they can take a few goes to get it right.
Have they stopped sitting? Based on the date you started this thread they're definitely overdue so might be an idea to remove the eggs. I'd leave the nest as they'll reuse it - they'll probably start laying again within a week or so. And check if the old eggs were fertile.
