I've also been ordering housefly larvae from ARCade and using that to "seed" the aviary flypots in the cold weather, judging by the way the wens are hanging around the pots that's still working although now it's really cold I'm thinking that I might start keeping a small batch out of the fridge and in the warm of the house in a suitable container for a day or two (rest are always kept in fridge to keep as pupae) then put container in fridge for a few hours to slow down newly hatched flies before adding to the flypots.

The australia post route to cairns has changed I think and I am not sure that paying for xpress post will make any difference. As I said via Toowoomba. One consignmnet of gents was destroyed by AP because of the "odour" which was because they took so long to get it here and from my discussions with them they will not guarnatee anything under 5 days. My last order arrived in 4 days and then I had to drive down to the mail distribution centre to collect it. Unfortunatley the by-product of living in remote northern australia I am afraid. Very frustrating.

natamambo wrote:frogs.org have a vastly restricted supply thanks to Pisces too, I didn't get my last order in full either. Gents should keep ok for a few days in the post and may be better than nothing - use the express post option (a little dearer) and while not guaranteed next day I've had stuff from Cairns to Melb overnight so you might get lucky and have it in 1-2 days anyway. Top up with the smaller crickets too, frogs should be able to do that without any drama.

ARCade have a priority to zoos so consumers sit behind them due to ARCade's charter of not-for profit / fund raising and all that stuff hence their supply being restricted at present.
Thanks heaps for your suggestions

Any chance of a local fincho trying to ramp up their fly box and supply you some on the side :?:

I will try through the finch group here and see if anyone is interested-its a very good suggestion which I never thought of. Otherwise I am probably going to have to focus solely on canaries (only joking).
