Anyone had any losses due to cold?
I had Gouldians at 14 days old with no parents in the nest in two boxes and all survived so far. Only got down to 7 deg. here though.4 in one nest & 3 in the other. Was worried about the 3 by them self, but they pulled through.
Quite a few feathers on them now so finger cross. :D

"Knocking on wood for luck"

No and hopefully it stays that way.

Gouldians with babies (12 days old) are in the nest closest to the heat lamp so they should be ok.

Other pair gouldians have five eggs but the hen sits really tight on eggs and babies so fingers crossed with that clutch.

Senegals with 4 babies, Im only guessing at the number of babies as I cant even see inside the nest, its that full of feathers!

Emblema, one baby very well stuffed full of food! Cock bird sits in there most of the time. Its quite a sight with the babys head sticking out from under the parent :D

hi everyone,

I learnt a valuble lession this morning, I will be doing Nest Checks alittle more often with my gouldians, the 4 that were due to fledge 2 in the nest were dead!

So i had 2 fledges out this morning checked the nest for the other 2 and they were dead, 1 had been dead for awhile as the nest was fouled! and the other one was near the entrance not sure what happaned, i wanted to leave them be for those last few days so not to frighten them and make them fledge early but i think i need to now do a nest check 4-5 days befor fledging, so i can check for any problems ie: remove any dead chicks.

on a more positive note i have 3 pairs on eggs, this time last yr i had taken all the Nest Boxes out due to inexperince. so im hoping these 3 clutches will be successful. *Fingers Crossed*

me either. my birds that are still sitting or have young are all in those nests I made that are packed with pea straw, guess the pea straw is holding some warmth in for them. nights here are getting down to 5 or 6 at present.
