The guy obviously knows nothing about the biology of termites. Just keep doing what you are doing. What are they going to do? Give you a warning? Every home owner spraying a mound on their fence line would be guilty of the same crime. DON"T MAKE WAVES AND YOU WON"T CAUSE A TSUNAMI. The fact is that most of the termites that we collect as terrestrial mounds are not the same species that attack houses.
I suspect you are joking but anyway from my discussion with the officer I understood that what she meant is the the mound was not a breeding site for something other than termites. Re type of termites I am told there are something like many different types of termites and the ones that build mounds are not the ones that attack a wooden house...well that is what the termite inspector for our house says.

Like 'crocnshas' my wife is still not convinced so have them in one of those plastic tubs with a lid you get on a building sites and placed this in a $10 plastic dustbin from Bunnings with water in the bottom (just in case the termite man was wrong). I once visited a guy with a large aviary complex near Byron Bay and he had a very large old table with each leg in a pot of water on which he broke up termite nests from around his farm and had being do that for over 20 years without a problem.

Now my second aviary has a small access way I will try breeding the fly maggots which as I said befor my wife would not permit in the garage which was my only facility.

Yes, you suspect correctly, I was joking. I misunderstood! You meant a breeding site for Kingfishers, Kookaburras etc I've been to the same breeders place and it is a good system that he has with the termites..

Excellent point which those scared by the prospect of storing/feeding termites near their homes should be aware of. Frozen termites are completely harmless to wood and still facilitate breeding the fussiest of insectivorous estrildid species. In fact they are the easiest and cheapest insect food to provide to finches for those who live near enough to where they can be gathered. Oh, and by the way they are the undisputed Rolls Royce of finch protein - a fairly handy fringe benefit.

Small fortune to be made if you move anywhere between Mataranka and Elliot and work out how to freight the buggers. Greater BB`s and Purple Crown Wrens Tint ? bit lonely but youll be right .
