This yellow headed gouldian may have been taken the same day as Cases yellow but at a different location.A very poor photo but I wont have many more of yellows I am sure.

I travelled 800 kms return in 24hrs for this bird.I only took 3 photos of him as we saw him within 15 mins at the hole waited there all the rest of the day and didnt see a bird.Then went back the next morning at 5 am no sign of him.We seen hundreds of pictas and various other birds about 100 or so metres at another water hole upstream what a sight to see.He has a large piece of the back of his neck missing and was most likley left behind.The morning we didnt see him we could hear a single emblema on the ridge but did not see him again.

Pick out the odd bird.They were not seen in high numbers at all.

The last photo (stars and single yellow rump), is that sorghum (milo) in the foreground? I'm surprised finches would touch that stuff due to the size of the seeds.

Yes Craig a yellowrump I would have only seen around 50 max of them targeting them for two days and accidently finding them another day. Sam as far as I am aware that is sorghum. They were also in chia among other crops. At this location they were in the thousands last year. But as you could imagine the farmers have put in place things to keep the numbers down.

Yellow rums just shifted across the border into NT. Plenty there this year en route to the count.

One of my favorite star finch moments.This flock I seen feeding in the grass.The trick was to get the sun behind me as it was low on the horizon.
