i did get a reply, but to be honest the reply was very jumbled, not very clear in terms of info regarding the red fusion bar.
the red fusion bar is something i don't pay much attention to these days, i still have that cock bird in this thread and his been my best breeder.

Just took a look at the date of the topic, didnt realise that much time had gone by. Someone local mentioned fusion bars and I started looking for more info on it.

Yep sure is a old post...lol
Its a funny trait the fusion bar.
For example the father to this bird picture below never had the fusion bar and nor did its mother but randomly it pops up.
I'm excite to see when this bird fully coloured as it is showing some strong colouring.
I'm a big fan of the fusion bar, the more colour you can put back into a Gouldian the more I like them.

It is generally far more obvious in white-breasted birds as the purple tends to slightly hide the top half of it and it just stands out more with two pale sides (white and yellow). Also tends to reveal itself best in birds with non-frosted feather (which coincidently tend to be on the smallish side). I have a few decent sized young cocks just starting moult through (purple-chested) which seem to already show it quite well. Time will tell in another couple of months whether they finish off as obvious orange/red bar birds though. At this stage, I'm optimistic they will.

Recently Samdavis and myself caught up with Ray Ackroyd. He mentioned that the Gouldians in the Northern Territory dispalyed the fusion bar whilst those in WA did not. It was the first I had ever heard of this but Ray then proceeded to show us a couple of videos. The first was of Gouldians and Yellow-billed longtails coming in to a water hole - these gouldians did not display the fusion bar. The next video was of Gouldians and Red-billed longtails coming into a water hole. These gouldians displayed the fusion bar - interesting too was there appeared to be a blue in the flock!

The footage Gary mentions was taken recently and there was a continuous stream of birds queueing up to drink at one small waterhole. Ray will likely speak at one of the FSA meeting early in the new year. He has agreed and is keen for me to organise to get copies of his video footage so it can be shared more widely. I just need to find the time - anyone with expertise interested to assist?
