Be careful with the cotton wool, it's not an ideal material for nests.

Congratulations.
With chicks to feed mine really hook into green leafy vegetables. I dice up the mixed salad leaves you get from the supermarket together with a bit of frozen peas and corn. Mine also eat a heap of maggots and of course lots of niger seed.

1 pair has finally built a nest, lets hope she starts laying shortly, i moved 1 pair to friends house so the males stop fighting so lets see how they go hows everyones red siskins doing?

Mine are doing fine health wise....breeding wise there is no action despite the copious amounts of live food, endive, chicory and shelled sunflower seed.......
Must be missing something...a malteso told me to add cottomn wool for them to nest build...seemed to think that was my missing ingredient.....cant hurt I guess

I bought sunflower kernels from my local bakery. Actually, they got them for me from their supplier in a 10kg bag. I cant remember the price, but it was half of what the supermarket price was.
