I just had a look at the birds in the October 2011 Newsletter. They are very interesting.

However, I really think it is very misleading to call these birds blue of any type. They are, if anything, a white - combination of the yellow and the blue.

Are the two mutations aust yellow and blue linked? Do they behave as below?

When you mate two together, do you expect on average to get one in four offspring to be ay blues? On average, these birds which are actually, I thought, a combination of two independent mutations should produce on average one in SIXTEEN ay blues.

Anyway, I wish they had a better name!!!

Quick, think of a new name! There's still time because there are hardly any about!

Because 'European Yellow Blues' have long been known as 'Silvers', I suggest 'Australian Silvers'.

Australin yellow combined with the blue should logically be called the Australian silver. Calling it the Australian yellow blue might work if people used the full name but the abbreviation is VERY confusing! Calling them Australian blues is dow right misleading, I reckon.

They are certainly visually more correctly Silver.

What happens when in my case the birds are more blue than white,also have bred the white with mainly blue wings,and as for naming them, your 12mths behind a women in geelong has already called them straw backs,her reason ,because the blue was streaky through the back ,garyh.

Been thinking ,maybe the two forum members who introduced these birds into victoria a few years back ,and have done some extensive work on them may have the right name for them,garyh.

Hi Finchy I would not be calling it a Australia silver,due to it colour,because if you look at a silver the body is white,where Australia yellow Blue is white body with steaky of blue go through it,also if you have look at the bird it is not total white.This bird is bred with two type of bird which are Australia yellow and a Blue and also from derive it name Austalia yellow Blue,so dont calling all these different named because will make so confussion.bye for now.
